Plexus hospital network the first in Flanders to get approval for a regional care-strategic plan

24 january 2023
The Flemish government has given its approval for the regional care-strategic plan of the hospital netwerk Plexus, a collaboration between AZ Diest, Heilig Hart Leuven, RZ Tienen and UZ Leuven.

In the regional care-strategic plan the hospitals clarify how they intend to match the healthcare offer with the healthcare needs of the Oost-Vlaams-Brabant region.

Milestone

Jo Vandeurzen, Plexus chairman: “The approval of this plan is a milestone: in fact, it is a prerequisite for individual hospitals within the network to be allowed to submit their own individual healthcare strategic plan. This way, they can get approval for, for instance, infractructural renovations. Heilig Hart Leuven, RZ Tienen and AZ Diest are being further developed as regional hospitals. UZ Leuven is the university pillar in the Plexus network and will support the 3 regional hospitals as part of its mission.”

Intense dialogue

The plan reflects the cooperation ambitions of the four hospitals and is the result of frequent consultations and intense dialogue between all partners. The approval provides a framework for a substantive elaboration and concretisation of the cooperation in the coming years.
