Medical prescription required

For this examination, a prescription from your doctor is always required. Bring this prescription with you on the day of the examination.

Preparation

After the examination, you may not drive yourself. Arrange transport to leave the hospital.
Inform the nurse before the examination if you think you might be pregnant.

Procedure

The entire procedure takes about 4 hours. The biopsy itself usually lasts 20 to 30 minutes

You will receive a local anaesthetic at the site where the needle is inserted.
Using a specialised needle, small tissue samples are taken.
You may hear a noise at the moment the sample is taken.
After the procedure, it is advisable to rest for a few hours (1 to 3 hours) at the hospital.
