Clinical examination of your lungs

The pulmonologist will ask you about your condition and examine your lungs and chest.

Detailed interview (anamnesis)

The pulmonologist will ask about:

  • Exposure to certain substances, gases and vapours
  • Occupational activities and hobbies
  • Contact with (domestic) animals
  • Taking medication
  • Smoking habits
  • Family medical history

Physical examination

  • Inspection of the chest.
  • Listening to the lungs with a stethoscope for signs such as fine crackling sounds (crepitations).
  • Observing breathing rhythm.
  • General physical examination to rule out other conditions or identify underlying inflammatory diseases.
