The purpose of isolation may vary depending on the patient’s situation.
Objectives of isolation include:
- Preventing the patient from injuring themselves
- Avoiding severe material damage

Decision to isolate
The decision to isolate is made by the care team, always in consultation with the physician and the supervisor.
The request for isolation can come from any team member, in consultation and agreement with other team members.
Implementation of the isolation measure
The nurse implementing the measure must have the skills to handle all aspects of isolation and physical management of the patient. They must also be able to clearly explain the measure to the patient, their family, and other caregivers.
