Medical prescription required
This examination always requires a prescription from your doctor. Please bring this prescription on the day of your examination.
Preparation
Before the examination, inform the nurse if you have:
- Reduced kidney function.
- Reactions to contrast agents during previous examinations.
- Use of medication such as diabetes drugs, blood thinners, etc.
Procedure
- Insertion of a flexible tube (catheter) into the femoral artery.
- Advancing the catheter to the blood vessels to be examined.
- Injection of the contrast agent.
- This agent is visible on X-rays.
- Taking X-ray images.
- During the imaging, you must remain as still as possible.
- You may be asked to hold your breath briefly or avoid swallowing.
As the femoral artery is punctured and a catheter is inserted into the blood vessels, there is a risk of complications.
