This examination always requires a prescription from your doctor. Please bring this prescription on the day of your examination.

Preparation

Before the examination, inform the nurse if you have:

  • Reduced kidney function.
  • Reactions to contrast agents during previous examinations.
  • Use of medication such as diabetes drugs, blood thinners, etc.

Procedure

  • Insertion of a flexible tube (catheter) into the femoral artery.
  • Advancing the catheter to the blood vessels to be examined.
  • Injection of the contrast agent.
    • This agent is visible on X-rays.
  • Taking X-ray images.
    • During the imaging, you must remain as still as possible.
    • You may be asked to hold your breath briefly or avoid swallowing.

As the femoral artery is punctured and a catheter is inserted into the blood vessels, there is a risk of complications.
