General dentistry

In the surgical day hospital, general dental care is provided under inhalation sedation. Sedation with an oxygen/nitrous oxide mixture allows treatments to be easily performed on anxious patients, young children, or patients with special needs requiring tailored care, such as those with a mental or physical disability. A team of experienced healthcare providers is responsible for these treatments.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS)

The OMS department performs oral surgical procedures under local anaesthesia; for more extensive or taxing procedures, sedation is used.

Patients with medical risks or those requiring special surgical techniques are treated in the surgical day hospital (ultrasound-guided procedures, endoscopic interventions, laser treatments, cryotherapy, use of the operating microscope).

In addition, the full spectrum of oral and maxillofacial surgery is practised, including extractions, removal of impacted teeth, orthodontic-related procedures such as the placement of bone anchors and exposure of teeth, treatment of superficial tumours of the mouth and face, removal or fragmentation of salivary stones, removal of cysts, pre-prosthetic procedures involving both soft tissue and jawbone, and the placement of dental implants in consultation with the referring dentist and with software-assisted preparation by the 3D OMS lab

Appointments

Periodontology

In the surgical day hospital, the more extensive periodontal procedures are performed.

  • Flap surgery (removal of inflamed supporting tissues around tooth roots)
  • Placement of dental implants (with or without a surgical guide to ensure optimal and minimally invasive placement)
  • Covering of exposed tooth roots
  • Exposure of impacted teeth and pre-prosthetic surgery, where the resorbed jawbone is restored with a graft from the patient’s own bone or synthetic bone.
