European University Hospital Alliance (EUHA) discusses European health policy during fifth general meeting

19 December 2019
The European University Hospital Alliance organised its fifth general meeting at the Hôpital Saint-Louis, AP-HP, in Paris on 4 December. The CEOs of the European University Hospital Alliance (EUHA) meet twice a year.

One of the EUHA’s objectives is to contribute to the development of a sustainable European health policy, which is why this policy was discussed with the European Commission during the fifth general meeting of its members. Topics included the role of university hospitals in the conversion of science into clinical practice, the digital transformation of healthcare, the European Health Data Space, European reference networks and the sustainability of healthcare.

The Articles of Association were also approved. They outline the EUHA’s management structure and operating procedures and will continue to be used to formally shape the alliance. It was also decided to formulate the EUHA’s strategic plan in 2020. Finally, the operating plans for the recently created Digital Health and Data Network and the establishment of the Clinical Leadership Development Programme were also approved. This programme focuses on effective leadership and leadership development of doctors at a high level as a lever to meet the challenges currently faced by our healthcare systems. The programme was initiated by UZ Leuven (Marc Verschueren, development and training department).

The EUHA will set up a partnership to promote Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) in university hospitals. RRI aims to promote a responsible and transparent approach within organisations, with a direct impact on research results and the quality of the services provided by a hospital. The EUHA wants to be a driving force behind diligent research and innovation and to contribute to the global discourse on this subject.
