What better way to spend your lunch break than walking, jogging or running in nature? With this idea in mind Sport Vlaanderen opened its sixth running track at the UZ Leuven Gasthuisberg campus, a sign-posted running and walking loop for companies and their employees.
It is a walking loop in the Alexianenpark close to the Lemmensinstituut (1.8 km) and a running loop (6.8 km) starting from the Gasthuisberg campus and leading through the Bertembos. Start and end of both tracks is the main entrance (East Access) of the hospital.
The tracks are mainly created for UZ Leuven employees, but are obviously open to the general public. The walking track is signposted with green signs, the running track with blue ones.
The Running track was established by the city of Leuven, the municipalities of Herent and Bertem and the Agentschap voor Natuur en Bos.
Peter Hermans, UZ Leuven HR director: “Welfare is a crucial objective in our policy for employees. Mental welfare and physical health go hand in hand. Which is why we encourage any initiative that keeps our employees fit and healthy in the workplace. These running tracks contribute to the resilience we all need after difficult times during which our employees have had to give the best of themselves.”
