Preventing infections

By taking a few simple measures, you can avoid becoming infected or infecting others.

Winter infection plan from 1 October to 31 March

UZ Leuven’s winter infection plan operates with four colours indicating the level of virus circulation in the community.

The plan is based on the government's Respi-Radar.

Virus circulation is currently on the rise, placing pressure on healthcare services.

Follow these measures:

Wearing a face mask is mandatory in the following situations:

  • in every waiting room;
  • when you’re in contact with healthcare workers;
  • when you’ve got a cold (you’re coughing, sneezing, you have a runny nose, sore throat, etc.);
  • if you are particularly susceptible to infections;
  • when you’re visiting a patient that is particularly susceptible to infections.

Disinfect your hands regularly.

Are you sick? Only visit your loved one once you have recovered.

Have you considered vaccination?

Disinfect your hands

Regularly disinfect your hands using hand sanitiser.

Hand sanitiser is available at many locations throughout the hospital.

Postpone your visit if you are sick

Are you sick? Only visit your loved one once you have recovered.

Consider vaccination

Vaccines are available against the flu, COVID-19, and RSV.

  • After vaccination, you are less likely to get sick.
  • If you do get sick, you'll be less contagious thanks to the vaccine.

Limit your time in the hospital

Arrive on time: not too early, not too late.

  • Preferably arrive no more than ten minutes before your appointment.
  • Leave for home immediately after your consultation or visit.
