Medical prescription required

Preparation

No specific preparation is needed for a fit-to-fly test.

Inform the doctor before the test if you are taking blood thinners.

Procedure

Duration: 45 minutes.

  • You are seated in a chair.
  • The doctor measures the oxygen level in your blood by taking a sample from the artery in your wrist.
  • A nose clip is placed on your nose and a mouthpiece in your mouth. You breathe oxygen at a reduced concentration (15%) for 20 minutes.
  • During the test, your oxygen saturation is continuously monitored.
  • The doctor takes a second blood sample to measure the oxygen level again. You then press firmly on the puncture site.
  • A plaster is applied to the wound.

If you require supplemental oxygen during your flight, you will receive a certificate and additional information.
