Medical prescription required

For this test, a prescription from your doctor is always required.
Bring this prescription with you on the day of the test.

Preparation

Fasting is not required for a compliance measurement. However, avoid heavy meals before the test.

Inform the healthcare provider before the test if:

  • you have had a nasal fracture (even if healed)
  • you are currently taking blood thinners

Procedure

Duration: 30 minutes.

  • Your nose is numbed with a spray.
  • A small catheter is inserted into the oesophagus through the nose.
  • Breathe calmly in and out while the equipment records chest pressure using a small balloon.
  • In the next exercise, take a full breath in and then exhale slowly.
  • This process allows for the calculation of lung elasticity.
  • The catheter is then removed.

The compliance measurement is a safe procedure.

Side effects

Inserting the catheter through the nose may cause coughing or nosebleeds.
