Preparation
- You must have fasted for an RX small intestine: do not eat, drink, or smoke for six hours before the examination.
- The digestive tract must be completely empty for clear imaging. Therefore, along with your appointment confirmation, you will receive dietary instructions and the appropriate laxative.
- Inform the nurse before the examination if you think you might be pregnant.
Course
Duration: approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour.
- Your throat will be numbed locally with a spray.
- The radiologist inserts a small tube through the nose (sometimes the mouth) into the small intestine.
- The insertion of the tube may cause some discomfort.
- The contrast fluid is then introduced into the intestine through the tube.
- X-ray images of the small intestine are taken.
- During imaging, you must remain still and briefly hold your breath.
