Facial pain is a common problem. Pain can occur spontaneously but can also occur after numerous dental and surgical procedures (dental implant placements, root canal therapy, tooth extraction, etc.), often involving nerve pain. These pains are very difficult to treat and regularly lead to anxiety and depression in our patients.
To date, little research is available on this facial pain. The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) at UZ Leuven together with the OMFS-IMPATH research group at KU Leuven are working together to broaden the understanding of this condition.
