Breast cancer counselling, processing and follow-up

Breast cancer patients can count on free psychosocial and nursing support. Find out how we can help you cope and follow up with breast cancer.

Counselling

The pathway counsellors of the multidisciplinary breast centre (MBC) offer free psychosocial and nursing support to breast cancer patients and their loved ones.

These permanent contacts assist you and your partner in dealing with the diagnosis, treatment, practical problems and psycho-emotional difficulties.

Processing

How do you process breast cancer? There is no ready-made answer to that question. We give you some guidelines and advice based on questions asked by many women before you.

Follow-up

After treatment is over, the doctor will suggest regular check-ups. In the Leuven region, cooperation has been developed between the general practitioners/gynaecologists and the specialists who took care of your treatment.

From one year after treatment, you can be followed alternately in hospital and by your GP/gynaecologist.

When are the check-ups?

  • 1st year: every 3 months
  • 2nd year: every 3 months
  • From the 3rd year: every 6 months
  • From the 5th year: every year

Check-ups will alternate between the hospital and your GP. However, interim check-ups may be necessary for patients taking part in studies.

Rehabilitation

  • Have you finished your radio or chemotherapy?
  • Do you suffer from fatigue, lack of energy or emotional problems?
  • Would you like to work on psychological and physical recovery under supervision?

KanActief offers you a combination of exercise, relaxation and information sessions tailored to your needs.
