Every year, we treat approximately 600 premature and sick newborn babies on the neonatal intensive care ward. The goal of the treatment is to give these children the best possible future.

Intensive and high-technology medical care is given within a framework of family-centred and developmentally supportive care. This philosophy of nurturing care is respected by our entire team.

You can only make an appointment if your child:
- was born prematurely (gestational age of less than 37 weeks).
- has a congenital defect.

UZ Leuven and CHU Luik to become external breast milk bank

Belgium is getting two external breast milk banks: one at UZ Leuven and one at CHU Luik. These donor banks will not only help premature babies on their way in their own hospital, but also to provide other hospitals in Flanders and Wallonia with breast milk in future.

UZ Leuven the first Flemish NIDCAP training institute for neonatal care

11 October 2021

At the end of September the UZ Leuven department of neonatology was officially named the first NIDCAP-training centre in Flanders. In future, nurses, midwives, neonatologists or home carers will be able to follow UZ Leuven courses to improve the care for premature babies.
