It is no coincidence that the Gasthuisberg campus, with not only the hospital but also the two neighbouring campuses of UCLL and KU Leuven, was chosen as the location of the fourth Velo bike point. It is an important mobility hub: every day thousands of people commute to and from here. One fifth of all UZ Leuven employees comes to work by bike, and another 3 per cent combines bike and public transport.
Around the clock
The new bike point is located in the bike stand under the logistics platform, near the Onderwijs en navorsing parking. Every weekday between 7 am and 7 pm, the administrative and technical staff is available.
Stimulate cycling
Peter Cnudde, head of the UZ Leuven logistics and mobility department: “The number of UZ Leuven employees to come to work by bike has more than doubled in comparison to 10 years ago. The past years we have invested in comfortable and spatious bike lanes, more bike stands, and a cycle allowance for our employees. The bike point is a logical next step to further support cycling to and from the hospital. Not just for our employees but also for visitors, patients and students.”
