Via the hospitalisation ward
If you are admitted via the hospitalisation ward, you will be admitted on the afternoon before your operation. This means you will stay one night in the hospital before your surgery.
- Upon arrival, please register at the admissions desk in the hospital’s main reception hall. If you have hospitalisation insurance, please mention it at this stage to ensure your admission is processed correctly. You do not need to report to the general reception; an admissions staff member will direct you to our ward.
- Once at the ward, check in at the reception desk. A nurse or logistics staff member will guide you to your room. Please be aware that you may need to wait in the waiting room for a short period, though we strive to keep waiting times to a minimum.
- A nurse will conduct an intake interview with you (and your family), recording both social and (para)medical information. The nurse will also check your vital parameters and initiate the preoperative preparations. This includes shaving the necessary surgical areas, asking you to take a disinfectant shower, and putting on a surgical gown.
- If you are admitted via the hospitalisation ward, you do not need to have fasted, as the operation is scheduled for the following day. The nurse will ensure that the required fasting protocol is followed in time.
- If needed, some additional technical examinations will be carried out (such as blood tests, an electrocardiogram, and an X-ray (RX) of the lungs and heart). We aim to limit these tests as much as possible during your hospital stay.
- The responsible doctor (or assistant) will carry out a clinical examination and provide you with all the necessary information regarding your operation, associated risks, and postoperative course. The anaesthetist will also visit you for a preoperative assessment if you have not already had a consultation.
Via Daghospitalisatie 4
If you are admitted via Daghospitalisatie 4, you will arrive at the hospital on the day of your surgery. This approach minimises the length of your hospital stay before the operation.
- For admission via Daghospitalisatie 4, you must have fasted.
- If you are arriving by car, please park in Parking Oost, which is closest to Daghospitalisatie 4.
- Report directly to the reception of Daghospitalisatie 4 at the agreed time. This ensures that your admission is processed administratively, so you do not need to check in at the admissions desk in the main hospital hall.
- Take a seat in the waiting area. One accompanying person may stay with you up to this point. We do our best to keep waiting times as short as possible.
- When it is your turn, your name will appear on the call screen. A nurse will meet you at the entrance of Daghospitalisatie 4 and guide you to your room.
- You will then receive the necessary preparatory care. You will be asked to put on a surgical gown and store your belongings in a case, which will be transported with you to the operating theatre.
- From Daghospitalisatie 4, you will be taken to the preoperative area of the operating theatre, where a theatre nurse will be waiting for you.
If you are admitted via Daghospitalisatie 4, your preoperative file will have been fully prepared before your admission. This means that all necessary preoperative tests and preparations will already have been completed. During a preoperative consultation, a cardiac surgeon, an anaesthetist, and a specialist nurse will have explained everything you need to know. This will ensure you are fully aware of any preparations you need to complete at home.
