UZ Leuven, a mother and baby-friendly hospital

Since 2008, UZ Leuven has held the international baby-friendly hospital quality label of the BFHI (Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative). This means we meet the requirements that give every baby, right from birth, the best possible chances for optimal health.

We want the best care for mothers and mothers-to-be, which is why we have developed several mother-friendly initiatives.

We follow the ten key steps for successful breastfeeding from the World Health Organization and UNICEF to give every baby the best possible start.

We observe the international code of marketing of breastmilk substitutes. Among other things, we do not promote infant formula or provide free samples of it.
