Gynaecology and obstetrics

1 accompanying person allowed

One accompanying adult (18+) is allowed in the examination room for an ultrasound and during consultations at the gynaecology and obstetrics department.

The companion can be, for example, the partner or the accompanying midwife, but not both together. Children must stay at home.

Multidisciplinary Breast centre (MBC)

The multidisciplinary breast centre (MBC) focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of all problems with your breasts, both benign breast disease and breast cancer.

Gynaecologische oncologie

De afdeling gynaecologische oncologie behandelt gynaecologische kankers zoals baarmoeder(hals)kanker, eierstokkanker en borstkanker.

Fertility centre

Are you having difficulty getting pregnant or do you have questions about your fertility? At the fertility center, you can seek help for fertility problems and fertility treatments.

Obstetrics

The obstetrics department is responsible for the follow-up of all matters related to pregnancy and childbirth.

General gynaecology

This department provides care for birth control and contraception, gynaecological check-ups, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of gynaecological conditions.

This department is responsible for imaging of gynecology and obstetrics.

Delivery ward

In the delivery ward, childbirth takes place. You will stay in the delivery room from admission until about two hours after the delivery. Scheduled C-sections and emergency C-sections are performed in the operating rooms of the delivery ward.

Hospitalisatie 7

After delivery, newly delivered mothers and their babies stay in the maternity ward. Read more about the facilities, visiting hours and the course of your stay in the maternity ward.

This ward mainly accommodates patients with gynaecological conditions.

Kangaroo care for baby

Physical contact is very important for your baby's health and well-being. This is why we strongly encourage skin-to-skin contact or 'kangaroo care'.

New strategy improves diagnosis of ovarian cancer

15 December 2022
An international research group led by UZ Leuven, KU Leuven and Imperial College London developed a new strategy to classify ovarian tumors as benign or malignant. They validated the approach in nearly 5,000 patients at 17 centers worldwide and confirmed that it helps doctors determine the most appropriate treatment.

Anaesthesia during pregnancy does not have impact on the child's development

UZ Leuven doctors have examined whether exposure to anaesthesie during the pregnancy has an impact on the brain development of the baby. The results are reassuring: no significant link was detected.

Cancer during pregnancy has no serious impact on the child’s brain development

21 October 2020
UZ Leuven has set up a large-scale follow-up trial examining the influence of cancer during pregnancy on the brain development of children. Cancer and chemotherapy during a pregnancy hardly appeared to influence the child’s brain.
