Patient identification

What is your name? What is your date of birth? No, we do not suffer from memory loss. Our care providers will systematically ask you for your name and date of birth. This way we can check that you're receiving the care that is intended for you at every step in the process.

Identification wristband

Wear your identification wristband throughout your hospital stay. If it should come off for any reason, ask your nurse for a new wristband. Check that all the information on the wristband is correct.

Bedside scanning: safe administration of medication

To administer medication, we scan the barcode of the medicine and the barcode on your identification wristband. Scanned medication is then automatically checked against the electronic medical prescription and any potential interactions with other medicines you receive.

Surgery checks

For each procedure, care providers go through a number of checks to ensure that you are undergoing the correct procedure. For example, during operations, a marking will be applied at the operating area site. Read more about this time-out procedure.
