If you are unmarried and your partner wishes to be the legal parent,
- the child can be officially acknowledged at the city or town hall during the pregnancy.
- In principle, parental acknowledgement is possible from the moment the pregnancy is confirmed. In practice, however, it is often only accepted from 26 weeks of pregnancy.
- A child may also be acknowledged after delivery, such as when the birth is registered or at a later date.
- Parental acknowledgement can only be undone through legal proceedings.
Please note: if parental acknowledgement was not arranged prior to the birth, the mother must be present for the registration of the birth at the Civil Registry.
